THE CHILLENDEN MURDERS
Two Part Series for BBC2
"An impressive display of intellect" The Times
The brutal killings of Lin Russell and her daughter Megan, along with the attempted murder of 9-year-old Josie in 1996, shocked the nation. Known as the Chillenden murders, they led to one of the biggest manhunts ever undertaken by British police. One year later, Michael Stone, a local heroin addict and petty criminal, was arrested, charged and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Two decades on, Stone still maintains his innocence, and questions over his conviction remain.
This high profile two part series used exclusive access to the vast collection of original case files, and via a team of independent experts, re-examined the evidence and added information unknown in 1996.
With access to people and paperwork that Matt developed over years, it also blended the first hand testimony from many of those involved in 1996, including Michael Stone, the man imprisoned for the crimes.
